Kantha Stitched Saree

The kantha stitch is said to be one of the oldest forms of Indian embroidery dating back over 500 years. A simple running stitch, it was first said to be used by Lord Buddha and his disciples convert old rags into a patched quilt to keep warm at night.

This technique in the hands of women artisans eventually became a form of representing day-to-day life and the beauty around them.
