Seaweed green and maroon handwoven Sambalpuri cotton saree from the weavers of Sambalpur, Odisha. The pattern for this saree evolves through a process of dyeing the warp and weft threads prior to inter-weaving. This technique of ikat weaving on a traditional handloom is a beautiful art of "poetry on the loom". This saree is woven with elaborate ikat rudraksha motifs on the body. Dobby rudraksha motifs are woven on border of the saree. The abstract motifs on the pallu are highlighted in two colours woven on a maroon base. Starched cotton yarn were used in the weaving of this saree, rendering a subtle crispy feel on the surface.
