Description :
Exclusive Handwoven natural dyed kotpad cotton saree French Wine base with kotpad design in body, border black & blue base with phodakumbha ,Pallu French Wine base with firvi design, & Blouse piece attached in French Wine KOTPAD (कोटपाड / କୋଟପାଡ) HANDLOOM Woven by the weavers of the mirigan community, Kotpad fabric traces its roots to the humble village by the same name in the tribal district of Koraput in Odisha. It is the first item from Odisha that received the Geographical Indication of India Tag in 2005. It is usually woven for the “Bhotada”, “Dhurua” and other tribal communities in that region. The uniqueness of the fabric lies in the use of natural dyes extracted from the roots of the Aul tree, that impart the trademark brown colour. Over the years, variations of the colour have been developed. The basic material is natural Tassar or cotton yarn which is massaged using castor oil and cow dung paste. It is then soaked in ash water, where upon it is sun dried for almost two weeks to obtain the desired tone. In all, it takes about 15 to 30 days for processing the colour and dying the threads into different shades. The most common products made from Kotpad handloom are – Cotton Sarees with solid borders and Patta Anchal, dupattas with butis (motifs), Cotton Scarves, Tassar Stoles and dress material. The motifs used on the fabric have their origins in tribal lore such as crab, fish, conch, boat, axes, fan, bow, temple etc. In this day and age of artificial dyes and chemical colours, it is a rare privilege to be the owner of the “Kotpad” fabric. Thank you for buying a product of Kotpad and contributing towards more sustainable handloom. Material:-2/100s*2/100s mercirised cotton
