Sri Saibaba Handloom
Butchaiah, a master weaver of the famous Gollabhama sarees from Siddipet, Medak District in Telangana, started Saibaba Handlooms in 1966 with an objective to popularise the variety and provide sustainable livelihood to artisans. He is currently working with a hundred artisans and weavers from the region. Gollabhama sarees are woven using the inlay technique of weaving where coloured threads are passed through the warp by pulling the strings of the loom down a number of times to create motifs of maids carrying pots (gollabhama), flowers (bathukamma) and dancing sticks (Kollatam). The decorative motifs are inspired by the charm of women of the “Golla” community dressed in brightly hued skirts and veils. These handwoven sarees come in cotton and silk.
