Samoolam Crafts

Samoolam Crafts is a Ngo based in Gaya, Bihar. This grassroots initiative was started in a small way in 2009; it was about generating livelihood for a few economically-deprived rural women, who were taught to create everyday accessories, using one-needle yarn knitting art of Crochet.

Samoolam means “Collective roots” in Sanskrit, and true to its name this became the guiding philosophy of the group who started small, but grew 10 folds in a decade of its existence.

Today, the women-led organization supports rural women from over 110 families who had little or no knowledge of the craft; earn their pride and livelihood through the creation of handmade and sustainable fashion and lifestyle accessories.
