Rajolli Sarees
Rajolli sarees are specialists in the weaving of Ilkal sarees from Bagalkot district of Karnataka. The uniqueness of the saree is that the body, border and pallu are woven separately and joined together with a series of loops called the ‘TOPE TENI’ technique. The body is plain, stripes or checks and woven in cotton whereas the border and pallu are woven in silk/ art silk. Traditional borders are usually 2.5” - 4” wide and in red, maroon or black colours. There are four traditional designs - Chikki, Gomi, Jari and Gadidadi which are used in the weaving of an Ilkal saree. The Gayathri is a modified design used in contemporary sarees. These sarees have been revived and have gained popularity in recent times.
