Narayanpet, a small town in the state of Telangana, has a historic legacy behind its handloom industry. The weaving tradition is said to have been brought to this region by the weavers in the entourage of King Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The sarees woven here are characterised by the checkered border designs , contrast borders and have a clear Maharashtrian influence.
GoCoop, through the initiative of the ‘enabling and empowering cluster-level weaver entrepreneurs’ has identified weavers from this cluster and through capacity building efforts is providing market linkages for sustainable livelihoods.
