Business Overview

The Handicraft Society was established in Dharamsala on April 11, 1963. Since then the society has trained many Tibetans the art of weaving Tibetan traditional woolen carpet in an effort to preserve Tibetan culture and arts, and also to provide employment during this time of hardship in exile. The society also provides accommodation and assistance with children education; pension plan for the retired workers; co-ordinates madicare; and takes care of workers and funeral expenses. The society provides 3 months winter holidays and helps give loans to share holders, who are sweter sellers and and need to travel down to the plains of India to ell hundreds of woolen sweaters in various towns and street stalls.

Objectives

1. To inculcate savings among members.
2. To encourage the members to be self-sufficient and also encourage the members to deposit surplus money with the society.
3. To provide short term and medium term loans to the members.
4. To purchase of raw materials appliances for the society's use or supply to members.
5. To make arrangements for the marketing of the finished goods of the society or its members
